Dr. Steffey was raised on the North Oregon Coast in Manzanita. Through high school she worked for the Wheeler Pharmacy where her interest in medicine began. After graduating from Neah-Kah-Nie High School, she attended Western Oregon State College and graduated with a B.S. in Biology. Dr. Steffey’s family doctor, Dr. Stewart, D.O., helped to convince her to apply for and attend The College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, CA. Dr. Steffey graduated from medical school in 1993 and was matched to the University of Wyoming Family Practice Residency program in Cheyenne, Wyoming. After completing her three-year residency she accepted a position for a Family Practice Physician at the Wind River Indian Reservation at Fort Washakie, Wyoming. After starting a family and two children, Dr. Steffey decided to move closer to home near the grandparents and to find a position that was less demanding. In August of 2000, she was employed by Bend Memorial Clinic here in La Pine. After two years, BMC closed the practice. Not wanting to leave her patients and move the family away, Dr. Steffey collaborated with Central Oregon Independent Health Service to start the La Pine Community Health Center. In March of 2003, Dr. Steffey acquired the clinic from COIHS and continues to own and operate the clinic today.
Dr. Steffey is very involved with her family, while not at the clinic she spends most of her time with her two children, Erica and Christopher. She is also actively involved with her Church. Dr. Steffey likes the outdoors, one of the reason for moving to La Pine, and likes to camp, fish and just enjoy relaxing along a lake or stream. She also enjoys traveling and spending time with her family on vacations.
